Someone once asked me why people believe in Lights Out after death, if there is no death.
With respect to the fact that I don’t know what happens after death in the same way that no one knows what happens after death, not really, this was my answer:
In the infinity of our experience as undying souls, we want to experience everything.
Everything.
We come down to this physical world, secure in our safety as eternal souls, knowing that we’ll pop right back home as soon as we’re done. Of course, we’re born into these bodies via a traumatic process and it often doesn’t get a whole lot better from there. But we get to live here with physical sensations - wind on our skin, breath in our lungs, cold salt water washing over our feet, warm donuts in our mouth. We get to play in a physical body without true memory of our etheric selves for awhile before popping back into that bright, loving infinity of home.
So why would we show up and believe this one wild life is all we have?
To experience it differently. To revere what we have, to feel how precious it is. Sure, that can twist into fear and loss and pain, but that’s just another part of this Feeling Everything Without Real Memory of Where We Come From.
Some of us are here specifically to believe that this life is it, this is all you get… because they want to have that experience. That experience of living fully, a deeply precious life. Before getting the best surprise ever at death. When you’re met by your favorite dead people, the childhood dog you’ve missed your whole life. Or whatever actually happens. Because again, just like everyone else, I don’t know. I just feel.
One of the most curious things about my personal experience of tapping into source - or whatever you want to call that light, home, god, universe, etc. - is remembering to tap into it regularly enough that it fuels me. Regularly enough that it becomes muscle memory. Remembering that when I feel like I lose access for awhile, I haven’t. I’m just creating a new way for myself to return.
And then, realizing how many people on this planet don’t feel that.
So the curious thing is…how do you share that? How do you help people remember what is really here for us, always.
Even in the midst of this human life which, spoiler alert, involves pain. Grief. Sadness. Melancholy. Despair. Hopelessness. Loneliness. Death.
Because the one fact we all have is: I will die. You will die. Everyone we love will die. That is inescapable.
But it doesn’t have to be bad. It doesn’t have to be anything other than going home.
You will die, and that’s okay. You will grieve, and that’s okay. You will feel lonely sometimes, and that’s okay. You will feel sad sometimes, and that’s okay.
You will also feel joy, you will also feel wind on your face, you will also eat your favorite thing, you will also move your limbs under the sun.
Because you are here in this experience on planet earth to feel it all. You signed up for this. You wanted it. There is a waiting list to come here and go through exactly what you are going through because it’s the best party in the universe.
This is why you’re here. To feel. To feel it all. To experience it all. To live it all.
And then go home.
With love, Amber
